India Poker Ranking caught up with the Delhi-based Anurag Srivastava after he ended as runner-up on The Spartan Poker’s ‘The Millionaire’ on February 11th 2018. Although Srivastava, 25, is not new to the game, he is fairly beginning in poker as a career. Here’s what he had to share:
Congratulations Anurag! How does it feel to end as runner up in such a big event?
Thank you. It means a lot to come second in the biggest monthly online tournament in Indian Poker.
Did you expect to make it to the Final Table in the middle of the tournament?
Well, when there were about 200 players left, I was chip leading, and I remained in the top 4-5 stacks throughout thereafter, so yes I was dreaming but I didn’t think it would actually happen.
Any particular hand that helped stack up? Is this your biggest win in a single tournament?
On the FT, I got lucky with a Flush Draw. Yes, this is my biggest ever!
Do you have a favourite hand?
A-A and 8-2 for me!
Does luck play a role in poker?
Luck does play an important role in the short term, but negates itself in the long run.
How did you start playing poker, do you play professionally?
As most players, I started playing recreationally and this went on for 7-8 years. Very recently, in the last month or two, I thought to myself if I can it take it up more seriously. Here we are today, I’m fortunate I got a big score like this so early in my poker career.
Where do you see yourself five years from now on the poker front?
Kind of wishful thinking, but I’m hoping that few years down the lane I’ll be able to play a lot of live tournaments around the world.
Lastly, what do you think about the India Poker Ranking concept?
The Indian poker market is on a rapid growth, and so IPR is a good concept that catches up on it in a way like no other.
Anurag Srivasatava ranks #70 on the India Poker Ranking leaderboard.
